So many exciting things going on! It’s my first month back in the United States (check out my travel blog) and sooo much is going on; especially with the Theatre Department. We have a new adjunct faculty member named Ray Wills. Ray was on Broadway and television for many years and actually made a living as a successful professional actor. He has many good things to say and a lot of new information for his students. He is very different that what I have experienced before, but I believe it is important to be adaptable and open to new things. Ray is also directing the original play ‘How the Dog Runs’ that will be October 10, 11, 12 at 8PM and the 13th at 2 PM. The play will feature my two best friends, Brittany Jonas and Pancho Fields, as well as Laura Morrissey. Laura is an exchange student from Newman University of Birmingham who I brought back with me when returned.
Also!!! The play’s author, Dan O’Neil was flown out here for a week to help with the rehearsal process. As this play has never been performed before, it is somewhat more of a challenge and a freedom for the actors to invent their characters in the way they feel it. Dan helped explain parts of the play that may have been unclear and he helped the actors to embody their characters in a way that fit with his intent. Dan answered so many of our questions about his play, New York, and the life of a theatre professional. I speak for us all when I say we were sad to see him go.
At the beginning of this semester, I was made the Theatre Departments Media Director. I make posters, brochures, videos, and many other things for upcoming shows including a trailer for ‘How the Dog Runs.’ Watch it HERE.
Anyway, have a fantabulous week everybody and I see you again soon!
