Three weeks from today I will be on a plan headed to Guatemala. Am I totally freaking out? Yes. Absolutely. I’m scared out of my mind (but also really excited)! I am traveling to Guatemala with several others from the Newman University community. It is a seven week study and serve program combining service work, class time, and a week of sight-seeing. I leave May 18th at a ridiculous time in the morning and will be back July 8th (we hope).

There is so much to do in three weeks! Our show, Curtain Up!, is finally on stage; yesterday I had an almost twelve hour rehearsal. Opening night is Thursday, April 29th at 7:30 pm in the Performance Hall. Students get in for only $5, all other adults $8. Come support the show! We have so many talented Chorale and Troubadour members that have been working hard all semester for this weekend. We also have shows on Friday, April 30th, and Saturday, May 1st.

Until Saturday night, the musical is pretty much my life. Late nights and long rehearsals, but it will all be worth it on opening night! Only after I get through this week can I think about studying for finals (two weeks away), moving my dorm room home (where did I get all this stuff?), or packing for Guatemala (ohmygoodness!). Time is surely in a crunch!

Our golf season is over; we placed third at the Heartland Conference tournament but unfortunately missed regional rankings by just a couple of spots. Still, several of our team members were recognized as outstanding players within the conference (and as only freshman)! The program will surely continue to grow and develop, and we can’t wait to be at nationals in the future.

There seems to be so much going on. I need more time, but regardless of anything else I WILL be on that plane in exactly three weeks (scared out of my mind). I think I better review my Spanish. When shall I find time?

I found out tonight that there is a troll in our midst. Have you ever spotted the troll that controls the fire downtown? If not, you surely need to take a trip over to the Keeper of the Plains and say hello. Don’t worry–he’s all grated up and can’t touch you. He’s also made of metal and bathed in green light at night. But Wichita has a troll!

When someone first told me this I was suspicious. I thought they were making something up to laugh at me about later. But tonight I saw him! If you don’t believe me, go down to the river by Exploration Place. On the north side of the river there is a power plant (i think that’s what it is?) and there’s a little sewer/water drainage port built into a hill on the bank. I had seen this drainage port before and thought it was kind of creepy, but if you go up on top of the hill and look into it from above you can see the troll statue! There was an attraction in Wichita that I never even knew about and I grew up here!

The fire pits were lit when we were there tonight. I love the Keeper of the Plains, and being there when it was all lit up made me feel like summer is truly coming. It rained all day yesterday and today: SPRING!

Spring Break will be here in two short days. I’m headed to Texas to play a golf tournament (maybe two), so I’ll be rather busy. But it will be enjoyable because I’ll be with my team!

Most of us have gotten through our major midterms. I survived! Now getting through to spring break…

quote of the night by Raymond: “I can think like other people. I just can’t think like you.”

It’s my first blog! This semester has brought about lots of changes, all for the better! Here I am, the newest Student Ambassador. Before Christmas I had no idea I would come back in January and start two new jobs. I also had no idea I would be going to Guatemala in May for the Newman University study and serve program. Lots of change, but the important things always stay the same.

I guess I fit in well around the Admissions Office. I happen to have a twin here, Louise from Sweden. We’re basically living the same life at the moment (which is cool and weird at the same time). GOLF GOLF GOLF. Last semester we began spending hours a day together due to our Women’s Golf team. Now we are both Student Ambassadors, have an interest in business communication, are enrolled in a class on the history of coffee (which ironically meets this afternoon), and never get enough sleep.

Louise isn’t the only reason I fit into the office! When I moved to Newman last August, I met a freshman boy with five names. It took me several weeks to figure out what they all were, and he would kill me if I published them on the internet. Still, Raymond Apollo Williams has been a very close friend for several months now. So I suppose I was destined to end up here?

I have class in 10 minutes. We have a shortened schedule today because of the annual Ecumenical Prayer Service. After some investigation, I learned that the name simply means a prayer service of all faiths. I plan on attending and love how my school is Catholic based!

That’s all I have time for this morning. Have a wonderful day!

As some of you might know, we (the golf team) have morning workouts at 6am everyday. This causes some friction between me and my roommates. For me to function, I need at least 8 hours of sleep, so I went to be at nine. Everything should be fine right? Nope. My roommates had some sort of gathering including guitarr playing and stuff, so I could not sleep until 11.47. Even the people on the 3rd floor had heard. It was that loud.

As a result, I am feeling a little irritated today. If I don’t come across smile and happy you all know why. And sorry for complaining, I needed to get it out of my system.

I hope for a better day tomorrow – more sleep. + The charity ball for Haiti tomorrow. Should be fun!

Hello everyone who reads this! How are you today??? Great and not freezing like me I hope:) So I decided to write about my awesomely, fandanderful, crazy fun weekend!

So it started off when I drove home to Tulsa Friday night and saw A Christmas Carol in 3D at IMAX and all I can say is WOW!!! It was AWESOME, a great way to start off the christmas season, I recommend it to everyone! On Saturday I went to my little brothers basketball game and worked. It was my first day at my seasonal winter break job at GUESS Watches in the mall and it was interesting, I didn’t sell any watches that day but had fun people watching and showing off cool watches:P My friends came over after I got off work and we had a blast doing things that best friends do:P I had to drive back early Sunday morning for the christmas concert that I was in.

Now that seems like alot of stuff right there doesn’t it? But thats just half the fun of my weekend! Sunday night AFTER the concert is where alot of the fandanderful events happened. It started with a Tacky Sweater Party in Beata Hall, about 20-25 people came dressed in the tackiest christmas sweaters that they could find. We had a white elephant gift exchange and lots of food/dancing and a tacky sweater contest (I was one of the winners:P). The top 4 finalists had to do the cat walk down the long hallway and were judged by applause from the rest of the group, it was very entertaining. I also learned that my huge blue/green/white zig-zag, crazy designs sweater and leggings outfit would be considered “high fashion” in Europe, just add heels and a belt! I know where to go so I won’t waste that outfit!

After the Tacky Sweater Party the tacky sweater group attended Breakfast and Bingo in the Maybee Dinning Center, a CAB (campus board of activities) hosted event. Who would of thought college kids could get so into bingo? There were a bunch of prizes given away and a lot of winners, ironically almost ALL the winners were part of the tacky sweater group!

As bingo ended my tacky sweater group and I decided the night was still young and we were not ready for it to end; so we went to 3rd floor Beata and played dodgeball! We had probably 200 of those really light colorful balls, you know the ones you jump into at places like Chucky Cheese when you were little? We moved furniture around and had forts and played till 4am!

Today we all woke up really sore but not tired because it is READING DAY and there are no classes!

Well! It did snow!(Kinda?) It was weird to actually see snow in November though. I watched it all comfortably from the many windows in New Hall. Though I just can’t wrap my head around it fully…I’m looking out the window now and there is what..Beautiful blue sky! Where did it all go so fast ?(Down south) I knew that.

Anywho, It’s Homecoming week! (Applause) I remembered! So allow all of the fun stuff to begin. That I know of yesterday was a Chili night(Mmmmm soooo delicious) and the Medallion hunt began! I’ve seen a few students already running about looking for the prized piece. I even looked myself..in this bitter cold(I was in need of action). Though it was a bit surprising to hear people screaming and running as they looked for it. (Hence “Battle cries”) Well that’s what I thought anyway. So I avoided them as best I could…with a hustled walk (He was running).

I can’t wait to see what else this week has in store for me. More snow? More free food? I like the food part.

Until next time!

Whew….what a week! I have successfully made it through the opening performance of my choir’s show, “Where’s the Remote?” It has been a whirlwind with 7 hour rehearsals everyday and trying to find time for homework in between! Although I’m completely worn out, I am excited to perform again tonight. The thrill of getting to entertain a live audience makes all of the work worth it. The story is centered around a family talking about what they can all do together and decide to watch TV…..I play the oldest daughter, who is a complete snot. Quite a few people in the audience told me I played the perfect brat. Haha….not sure how to take that! I also have the pleasure of making an appearance as a Ariel. So much fun! Well, enough for now…..wish me luck! God bless and happy day!

My sweet and simple survival advice is as follows:

Break down your tasks. If you make a list of steps to complete what you want to do, it really won’t seem that bad.

Take time for breaks. These breaks may be snack time, nap time, bathroom-time, TV-time, movie-time, solitaire/minesweeper-record setting-time… Really anything that de-stresses and refocuses you. If you spend too much time looking at one thing, you are going to become rundown quickly. **DISCLAIMER: Blogger not responsible for distractions that last too long. Set a goal. For example: once you have beat three games of solitaire, quit and consider getting back on task.

Change up what you are working on every so often. Don’t work on one paper for five hours straight. Break it down and work on a couple in that time period. This suggestion may not always work. Know what will work for you and stick to it.

Don’t get down on yourself. It really doesn’t help to focus on the fact that you have four MAJOR papers and two MAJOR presentations due within the next five days. This really only adds to your stress and distracts from the most important task at hand: surviving.

GOOD LUCK! You can do it! Just four (give or take a few days) weeks to go!
